About us

At Torque Performance Developments we are your one stop shop for all your vehicle performance needs. From a range of performance parts, a full operating performance service workshop, custom fabrication division, and a 4wd dyno for custom tuning both OEM and aftermarket ECU's.

Torque Performance was established in 1991 as a premium tuning shop, we also designed and sold dynamometers under the brand DynoTorque, with many still in operation in shops across the country to this day. We were one of the first to reverse engineer early Holden ECU's and assisted in helping some well known companies develop their ECU products . 

Over the years much has changed, we have moved premises, upgraded our dyno, accumulated a massive range of tuning & diagnostic tools and tune files.

In early 2020, Torque Performance was sold to our current team with Jon-Paul "JP" at the wheel taking over the drivers seat merging R Developments & Torque Performance into one! Our team comes from a wide range of backgrounds, different manufactures, motorsports, fabrication and tuning to provide you the customer a start to finish complete experience for your automotive requirements.

 

Robin van Velden
Founder

Robin founded the company back in 1991 starting as a dyno tuning shop, meaning that he has been a tuning cars for over 30 years, Originally from a background of building and tuning Formula boat engines in the USA, Robin has gone on to be regarded as one of the best tuners NZ has had to offer, He has also been involved with some major tuning brands such as working with Hondata and EFI Live in their early years with development. He was also involved with many tuners over the years such as, Dave from TuneTechnic and Soichi who was the previous owner of ST Hitec.

Rob has followed and seen everything the industry has had to offer over the years and is a wealth of knowledge that the current owners can draw on. While now semi-retired, he still pops in from time to time to help out with tuning and vehicle builds when needed.
